It was a great privilege for Samara to formally meet with His Excellency Mr. Cenio E. Lewis, High Commissioner for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday 13th February 2023.


25 year old Samara Telesford, currently a Dental Hygiene student at the University of Portsmouth and who is, a General Dental Council (GDC) registered dental nurse. Samara, represented Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Saturday 29th October 2022, and won her ultimate title of Miss Caribbean UK 2022 as well as other categories: “Best Evening Gown”, “The People’s Choice Vote” and was joint in the “Miss Personality” category.


Miss Caribbean UK, set up by Founder’s Clayton and Jacqui Brown, is an event that promotes all the different Caribbean countries under one umbrella with an objective to; “Positively Promote the Caribbean”.


Samara was greeted with high praise and was congratulated for her achievement as the 2022 Miss Caribbean UK Queen. . With a very relaxed setting, Samara was able to gain a little insight about His Excellency’s personality as he shared his extraordinary stories and exciting experiences as a young man.

He also shared his excitement on the mission’s advancement in recovering the artefact that belonged to SVG’s National Hero; Joseph Chatoyer, which is an intrinsic part of the Caribbean and British history. There were also discussions surrounding a few of the events planned for 2023 such as: National Heroes day reception in March and the Emancipation Day celebrations in August to name a few.


As a member of the SVG Women’s Association, Ambassador for the KD Crosdale charity in the UK, and campaigner for her charity “A Black Girls Tale”, the new reigning queen has expressed an interest in becoming a UK Ambassador for young Vincentians and would welcome the opportunity to be involved and assist with those significant events. Also, with the assistance of the SVG Tourism Authority, Samara is excited to plan an extensive itinerary to promote the beautiful, National parks, rivers, beaches, carnivals and destinations points on the island.


Samara would like to use her platform as the new reigning queen, to push her “A Black Girls Tale” campaign, which advocates a safe place for black women to share, express and overcome any feelings or experiences they may have faced within the educational system or place of work. Her platform will also be used to raise awareness of the various charitable causes and organisations she actively supports.


In conclusion, this was a most enjoyable and informative meeting and both Samara personally and the MCUK organisation hope to bring you all further updates in the future.
